James Rymer

James F. Rymer, 84 , of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015. O wretched man that I am, who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 7:24-25). And so on the morning of July 25, 2015, James Franklin Rymer, beloved patriarch, husband, brother, relative and wonderful friend was so delivered to his Lord. Preceding him in his eternal journey were his parents, Naomi and Arthur Rymer; stepmother, Rita Rymer; and a loving wife, Evelyn Williford Rymer. Left behind are a daughter, Pam Rymer Olson (Jim); two sons, Danny Rymer (Cindy) and Mickey Rymer; one granddaughter, Jamey Bonds; three grandsons, Eric Rymer (Katie) and Travis Rymer (Rebecca) and Macaulay Akin; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Josephine Frazier (Ronald); brother, Louis Rymer (Doris); several cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many, many friends, including a very close friend in Dixie Lehman. We have to believe there is a beautiful garden spot in Heaven in need of a very green thumb, which Mr. Rymer possessed and was so willing to share the harvest with others. For 42 years he was a dedicated employee of DuPont Co. of Chattanooga. In addition to gardening, he loved to fish in his early years and loved to travel, especially in his later years. His most important legacy to his family is his Christian life and influence, having been an active member of East Brainerd Church for over 50 years. Serving on many committees, and other outreaches of the church, he supported it financially and devoted many hours volunteering to help accomplish many projects. He taught us to live Godly lives, disciplined, but the gift of mercy was his dominant character. He had a hard honest work ethic, ever dependable, generous, always took care of his family, and displayed a wonderful sense of humor. In his later years of health and physical demise he was cognizant of his earthly losses but kept his eye on the Heavenly Prize, knowing Jesus as the Author and Finisher of his faith. He loved us to the end, made many new friends recently, to which he says "keep up the good work," and though we miss you terribly, we know you are truly free, having a wonderful time, and, you know, well see you a little later. A celebration of life service 11 a.m. Wednesday at East Brainerd Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Bain, Rev. Travis Rymer and Eric Rymer officiating.
