Helen Buffington

Helen Green Buffington, 92, died at her home Friday, March 27, 2015, after a short illness. Helen was born in Chattanooga to the late Robert and Dewy Elliott Greene on Aug. 27, 1922. She married her late husband, Lawrence Adams Buffington, in 1951. After a move to Detroit where their son,Charles Andrew Buffington, was born, the family relocated to Tinley Park, Ill., where Helen retired from Howe Development from the State of Illinois. Helen and her husband retired toDunlap in 1988. Helen was very active in the Womens Auxilary of the American Legion as well as Valley Veterans. In later years, she also enjoyed attending the Senior Center in Dunlap. Helen was a huge NASCAR fan, always cheering for Jimmie Johnson. Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence A. Buffington; sister, Bobbie Jewell Greene; grandson, Mark Buffington; and nephews, Dick Schier. Survivors include her son,Charles Buffington, Dunlap; granddaughters, Eliza Buffington, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Linzy Buffington, Chicago, Ill.; sister, Rahma Greene Schier, Chattanooga; aunts, Johnnie Sue Greene Morgan and Wanda Greene Henry, both of Dunlap; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also left to cherish her memory are her good friends and neighbors, Faye Harmon, Sewilla Seals and Betty Bass. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. CDT Monday in Ewton Funeral Home chapel with Brother Wally Seiber officiating. Burial will be in Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. CDT today. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Valley Veterans Association.
