Betty Harrall

Betty Fay Harrall, 93, of Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord, Friday afternoon, Nov. 20, 2015, surrounded by her family and friends. Betty was born in Pikeville, Tenn., on June 29, 1922, and raised in Chattanooga. She was a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1940, and worked at Erlanger Hospital for 39 years before retiring in 1984. There she became one of Erlangers first Registered Histological Lab Technicians. She never had any absences in school or during her working career. Betty was quoted as saying that she had been "blessed with good health." She married Carleton Harrall on Aug. 21, 1948, at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, where Betty was a member until its closing in 2004. She then became a member of Brainerd United Methodist Church and belonged to the Friendship Class. Betty was a former member of the Ridgedale Order of the Eastern Star. After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed bus tours until his passing in 1998. She also enjoyed working outdoors, nature and annual family reunions. Surviving are her daughter, Rhoda Ruth Harrall; and several nieces and nephews. Betty was the last of eight children born to the late William G. Swafford and Gertie May Kelly Swafford. Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at the funeral home. The service will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Marvin Howard and Pastor John Swafford officiating. Burial will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery. The family would like to thank Katy Hamby and her staff and Caris Hospice for the love and care shown to Betty.
