Steve Harvey

William Stevens Harvey, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away April 23, 2016. He was born on Nov. 6, 1930, in Chattanooga to Mae Stevens Harvey and Philip K. Harvey. He is survived by his wife, Dolores Wessel Harvey, of 55 year;s and son, Scott Harvey and wife, Joni; and granddaughter, Gillian Harvey; and grandson Camp Harvey. He was a graduate in the 1948 class of Chattanooga High School. He received his Bachelor Degree from the University of Chattanooga in 1952, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He later served as a member of the UTC Alumni Council and the Alumni President and was a member of the UTC Board of Trustees. He was a long time stockbroker at Elder & Company, which later became JC Bradford, where he was a partner and also a board member, later it became Paine Webber and today it is known as UBS. He enjoyed many years of working with his clients. He was also a member of the Chattanooga Rotary Club. He and his wife Dolores, received from UTC; the Gordon Davenport Award and were honored by the University of Oklahoma the Sooner Salute Award for their support to UTC. This award was presented by OU at a Oklahoma and UTC football game in Norman in 2008. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Philip K. Harvey, Jr. and Durwood Harvey. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Ruthberger. He enjoyed his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His joy was in attending UTC football and basketball games. He was a former active member of Central Presbyterian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder. He is now a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2016, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church, 3319 Hixson Pike, the memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UTC, Brock Scholarship Fund, Development Office-Department No. 6806, 615 McCallie Ave. Chattanooga, TN 37403.
