Minnie Hughley

Minnie Grimes Hughley, 65, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2016, at Erlanger Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred N. and Maude P. Grimes. Minnie enjoyed many years of employment in the Tennessee Department of Employment Security, later the State of Tennessee Department of Labor. An active member of Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, she served for many years as Director, Board of Christian Education. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Steward Board of her local church and recently had become Southeast District Lay Leader. She was also a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. She is survived by four siblings, Freddie Grimes Thompson (Buffalo, N.Y.), Fred (Frances) Grimes Jr. (Washington, D.C.), Frances A. Grimes (Piscataway, N.J.) and Alice Grimes Linder (Chattanooga); two nieces, Jennifer Thompson and Jennifer (Johan) Paige; five nephews, Jeffery (Paula)Thompson, Roderick (Pat) Grimes, Frederick (Kim) Grimes, Fred Grimes III, and Robert Linder, Jr.; four great-nieces; six great-nephews, and one great-great-nephew. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at Phillips Temple C.M.E. Church, 1321 North Moore Road. The body will lie in state Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church. Interment will take place after the funeral at Forest Hills Cemetery. The body will lie in state after noon today, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
