Winston Prince

CLEVELAND — Winston H. Prince, Jr., 93, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at the family residence. Mr. Prince was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Mr. Prince was a graduate of Polk County High School and moved to Bradley County after graduation and has lived in Bradley County ever since. He attended Tennessee Tech University. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, graduated from Bombardier School, and served with the 12th Air Force in Italy. He graduated from Cumberland University in 1948 and received his license to practice law that same year. He worked several years with the Internal Revenue Service. He served as county attorney for Bradley County for several years after serving as city attorney for the City of Benton. He opened a law office in Cleveland, Tenn., in 1953 and practiced law as a general practitioner for about 40 years, until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and former member of the Cleveland Country Club and Rolling Hills Golf Course, and was current member of Chatata Valley Golf Club. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, a member of the American Legion Post 81, charter and present member of VFW Post 2598, past president of the Bradley County Bar Association, and past commander of the American Legion Post 81. He was preceded in death by his parents, Winston H. Prince, Sr., and Martha Hawk Prince; sister, Panthea P. Howell; brother, Bill Prince; and grandson, Beau Prince. He is survived by his wife, Barbara D. Lusk Prince, of Cleveland; children, Gail Moon and husband James, of Crossville, Tenn., Winston H. Princes III, of Seattle, Wash., Ronnie Tims and wife Phyllis, of Georgetown, Tenn., and Linda Rhodes, of Cleveland; two grandchildren, James Moon, Jr., and Beth Lariscy, of Tampa, Fla.; three great grandchildren, Bailey Lariscy, Austin Lariscy, and Ava Moon, all of Tampa, Fla.; and niece, Suzanne Conti, of Chattanooga. The family would like to thank Dr. Don Robinson and Dr. Robert Marcum, for their excellent care over the last several months. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, with Rev. Dr. Joel Huffstetler officiating. The eulogy will be given by Richard Banks. Interment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens, with Roy Stepp, Ed Lewis, Kenny Howell, Richard Ellington, Carl Colloms, Don Hill, Bebo Harris, and Richard Banks serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Cleveland Bar Association. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home and Crematory.
