Dennis Brandon

WHITWELL — Dennis V. Brandon, 87, finished his race Tuesday, April 4, 2017. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired from Combustion Engineering after 38 years, and worked at Whitwell Memorial Funeral Home for more than 20 years. Dennis was a deacon and member of Crossroads Baptist Church, Ruritan Club, Masonic Lodge, founded girls fast pitch softball in the Sequatchie Valley in 1968, coached and umpired baseball and softball games for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Myrtle Brandon; brothers, Raymond Brandon, Floyd Brandon and Bill Brandon. Although his family is heartbroken, they are beyond blessed to have had one of the biggest Christian influences in their life. He leaves behind a wife of 61 years, Janice Shirley Brandon; daughter, Mary Lynn (Ronnie) Holloway, both of Powell’s Crossroads; sisters, Mildred Giles, of Trenton, Inez Johnson, of Chattanooga; brother, Spencer (Wendy) Brandon, of Lafayette; granddaughters, Natalie (Danny) Holloway Blair and Nesha (Cam) Holloway Steele; great-grandchildren, Keller Tankersley, Caroline Steele, Bryson Blair, Bennett Steele, Kennedy Blair, Auston Blair. Family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. CST today, April 6, 2017, and from 4 to 8 p.m. CST, Friday, April 7, 2017. Funeral service is noon CST Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Crossroads Baptist Church with Rev. David Grisham, Rev. Jim Hensley and Rev. Hershel Powell officiating. Military honors will be provided by Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard. Final resting place will be at Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens in Jasper.
