David Shrum

TRACY CITY — Mr. David Eugene Shrum, 79, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, at his home with his family at his bedside. He was born in Palmer, Tenn., on Nov. 19, 1937, to Claude Eugene Shrum and Mary Willie Box Shrum Magouirk who preceded him in death along with his wife, Velma Norris Newsome Shrum; brothers, Clyde and Tommy Shrum; sisters, Maudie Lee Lay and Nellie Brown; stepson, George Walters; mother of his children, Earlene Shrum. He is survived by his wife, Lynda Borne Ruehling Shrum; daughter, Claudette (James) Nolan; son, Charles David (Teresa) Shrum; sisters, Estelle Keck and Mildred Chapman; stepchildren, Brenda Bivens, Freda Burnett, Tony and Tommy Newsome, Melinda (Randy) Littell, Chad (Audrey) Schoenmann, Rocky (Michelle) Ruehling, Tim (Stephanie) Ruehling and Jeff (Connie) Ruehling; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, Jason Bryant, Chad Schoenmann and Sam Long officiating with burial to follow in the Griffiths Creek Cemetery. Visitation: 4 to 9 p.m. today at Layne Funeral Home, Palmer, Tenn., www.laynefuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Greg Grimes, (Dave’s grandson) cancer fund to help with his travel and medical expense while going to Nashville for treatments.
