James Verhine

James Roy Verhine, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born in Scottsboro, Ala., on Jan. 5, 1931, to the late, James Edward and Rosa Bell Hall Verhine, but had lived in the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas for most of his life. He was of the Church of Christ faith and was an Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He had previously worked with the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office and also the City of Chickamauga as a Police Officer for several years. He retired from TVA as a Truck Driver and was a loving and devoted father and grandfather who will be truly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of more than 50 years, Syble Wilbanks Verhine. Survivors include his daughter, Polly Verhine and fiancé, Wilbur Brock, of Rossville, Ga.; two grandchildren, Susie and Cid Hoss and Charity Allen; two great-grandchildren, Cassidy Butler and fiancé, Nick Racine and Haley Haught and fiancé, Jack Beesley; and two great-great-grandchildren, Brody Brackett and Emorie Beesley; special friend, Brandi Mendoza.
