WV Roberson

WV Roberson, 80, passed away May 25, 2017, in the comfort of his own home surrounded by family. He was retired from DuPont. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of the American Legion, and the Soddy-Daisy Knife Club. WV was born in Etowah, Tenn., on Jan. 19, 1937, and moved to Soddy-Daisy in 1948. He was a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School (class of 1955) and had been a member of First Baptist Church Soddy-Daisy since 1948. WV was in the U.S. Army from 1960-62 and was stationed in Korea 1960-61 with the H.A.W.K. Missile Unit. His time in the military sparked an appreciation for the sacrifices made by military veterans and he has completed many projects in their honor. When you drive through Soddy-Daisy and see flags posted in the ground and hanging from power poles, that was WV. When you pass by city hall and see the white crosses out front in remembrance of local veterans who have passed away, that was WV. When you hear on the news about a Veterans’ Day dinner held in town that served several hundred people, that was WV. His work in honoring veterans has earned him several honors. There is a flagpole out front of First Baptist Church in his honor. He was awarded Legionnaire of the Year from the American Legion, Post #107. He was also inducted into the Soddy-Daisy Hall of Fame in 2016. WV loved his church and his community very much. He served the church as a deacon, was a member of the Builders Sunday School class, and was very active in the life of the church. He also helped incorporate the city of Soddy-Daisy in 1969 and has a lot of pride in this community. WV ended his Hall of Fame acceptance speech by saying, “God has been so good to me. I just thank God he put me in Soddy Daisy.” WV was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy; sister, Ersa Hollis; as well as his father and mother, Lake and Vesta. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Wesley (Tammy); grandsons, Tyler (J.J.) and Will (Krista); great-grandchildren, Benaiah and Tatum; sisters, Lolita Woodward and Vesta Ann Roberson; as well as several nieces and nephews. He loved his family very much and showed it in his words and his actions. He will now live on in their memories as well as in the character traits he passed on to them. The family thanks Hospice of Chattanooga for their exceptional care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Soddy-Daisy Benevolence Fund or First Baptist Church Soddy-Daisy Food Bank, 10185 Dayton Pike, Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., 37379.
