Mary Moses

ROCK SPRING — Mary Marie Johnson Moses, 79, went home to be with The Lord Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017. She was born in Rossville, Ga., on March 27, 1938, and had been a lifelong resident of Northwest Georgia. Marie worked at Crystal Springs Bleachery in Chickamauga and Caron Mills of LaFayette, Ga., where she retired. She enjoyed caring for others, especially those in the nursing homes where she carried care packages of socks and fruit baskets. She enjoyed being an active member of Rock Spring Baptist Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Moses; eldest son, Waymon L. Payton Jr.; youngest son, Ronald D. Payton; parents, William R. Johnson and Jessie Dudley Stainback; brother, Melvin C. Johnson; sister, Kathleen Rainer. She is survived by her sons, Mark A. (Karen) Payton, of LaFayette, Ga., Gary E. (Priscilla) Payton, of Rock Spring, Ga., Robert D. (Diane) Payton, of Knoxville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Angel Hines, Stephanie Parker, Gary E. Payton II, Amy Hollifield; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at Rock Spring Baptist Church with Pastor Shane Harris officiating.
