Shirley Townsend

ROSSVILLE — Shirley Joyce O’Neal "GeeGee" Townsend, 71, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017. She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas and was of the Baptist faith. She was previously employed with Econ Carpets for many years and retired from Sav-A-Lot in 2006 after more than 10 years of service. She loved working on crossword puzzles and truly enjoyed spending time with her family especially around the holidays with Christmas always her favorite. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Hattie O’Neal; and two sisters, Barbara Ann Jeffreys and Linda Kight. Survivors include her loving husband of more than 51 years, Charles Andrew Townsend; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Scott and (Tammy) Townsend all of Rossville; three grandchildren, Christopher Andrew Townsend, Kaylee Ann Townsend and Angel Grimes; three great grandchildren, Jackson Townsend, Jaiden Biggs and Drake Barrett; numerous extended family and friends; special friend, Gloria Davis and her fur babies, “Baby” and “Precious." Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017 in the Fort Oglethorpe chapel with Bro. Rick Lyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens.
