Gay Freeman

DAYTON — T. Gay Freeman, 59, died Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017, at Erlanger Medical Center. A longtime resident of Rhea County, Gay was the daughter of the late Floyd R. and Blanche Vickery Alewine. She was a graduate of Rhea County High School, Class of 1976 and attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Gay worked for TVA for 37 years and retired in 2016. She liked to cook, read and work in her flower garden. Gay actively participated in any family activity (school, sports, etc.) that her children were involved in. She was an avid animal lover. Gay attended New Union Baptist Church in Dayton. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Alewine and Harry Alewine. Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Freeman, of Dayton; children, Kenzie Freeman and Justin Freeman, both of Dayton; sisters, Rosemary (Jr.) Victory, of Lavonia, Ga., Kathy McClain, of Aiken, S.C., and Tammy (Tim) Colvin, of Dayton; and sister-in-law, Susan Alewine, of Bowling Green, Ky. Funeral services are Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Dr. Danny Ruehling officiating. Interment will be in the Spring City Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home. Arrangements are by Vaughn Funeral Home in Spring City.
