Archie Torbett

DUNLAP — Archie Pat Torbett passed away Sept. 17, 2017, at the age of 79, after a courageous and lengthy battle with prostate cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verlin and Sybil Torbett; two brothers, Sam and Ike; his brother-in-law, Terry Williams; and his nephew, Brad Torbett. Born April 29, 1938, in Kensington, Ga., he is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sarah Linam Torbett; sons, Jeff (Marcia) Torbett, of Katy, Texas, and Chris (Paige) Torbett, of Irving, Texas; daughter, Susan (Glen) Garlington, of Burleson, Texas; grandchildren, Caylan and Avery Torbett, Grace and Archie Torbett; Madi, Hillary and Caroline Garlington; brother, Mike (Jimmie Ruth) Torbett, of Flintstone, Ga.; sister, Kaye Williams, of Rossville, Ga.; and sister-in-law, Jess Torbett, of Ringgold, Ga.; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews and various extended family. Upon graduating from Lakeview High School in 1956 Pat enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served our country for three years. Pat began his professional career in 1960 working for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad in Chattanooga, Tenn. Pat moved his wife and three children to Cleveland, Ohio in 1970 to further his sales career with the railroad. Pat retired from CSX Corporation as the District Sales Manager in Dallas, Texas in 1996. He loved working at the railroad; developing countless friendships throughout the decades. Pat enjoyed rooting on the Ramblin' Wreck every chance he could, playing golf, reading (especially WWII books), and socializing with their many loving friends and family! He truly cherished his role as a grandparent and was the best "PatPat" there ever was! His great hugs, sweet birthday cards, and tender, loving words will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, 310 Kimball Crossing Drive, Suite 3, Kimball, TN 37347 &/or First Baptist Church of Lakeview (Men’s Ministries), 10 Hudson Street, Rossville, GA 30741 The family would like to thank all the caregivers from the many doctors' offices, Amedisys Hospice Care (especially Lisa), & our many supportive family/friends for their love, encouragement, & prayers. A clebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Natalie Smart officiating. The family will receive friends 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Heritage Funeral Home, 3239 Battlefield Parkway.
