Norman Meeks

PALMER — Mr. Norman “June Bug” Meeks Jr., 80, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, at the Emergency Room at Memorial Hosptial in Chattanooga. He was born in Palmer, Tenn., on July 3, 1937, to Norman Meeks Sr. and Elizabeth Smith Meeks who preceded him in death along with his brothers, Pascal, Ernest, Alvin, James, Buford, Richard; sisters, Mildred Meeks, Mary Sturges and Virginia McClusky. He was the Grundy County Road Commissioner for 12 years. He was employed at TVA and was an self-employed equipment operator. He worked on many of the roads we travel on today. He volunteered countless hours on the Gruetli-Laager Volunteer park and was active coaching youth baseball. He attended First Baptist Church Gruetli-Laager. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn Sweeton Meeks; sons, Michael (Jackie), Monte (Shalonda), Craig (Jennifer) and Cory (April); grandchildren, Felicia (Blake), Devan (Akia), Keon, Emilee, Creed and Kravin, Karastin, Kyla, Bryson, Garrett, Grant, Gavin, Gunnar, Chelsia, Peyton, Mallory, Matty, Ellis and Kylee; great-grandchildren, Braylon and Colston. Tristin, Lindley and Shayde; a host of loving nieces and nephews and caring friends. Future grandson baby Greyson due in October. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, John Potts and Cary Gomer officiating with burial to follow in the Fall Creek Cemetery.
