Betty Nye

Betty Rogers Nye, 90, passed away to her heavenly home on Aug. 16, 2018, in Bradenton, Fla. Betty was born and raised in Chattanooga, but also spent a big part of her life in Seminole, Fla. In Chattanooga, she was a Past Matron of Sunnyside OES and a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she was active in the “WOW” Women’s Bible Study group which she loved. While living in Florida, she was “First Lady” of the Egypt Temple Shrine when George was “Potentate”. She spent years planning fundraisers for the Shriner’s Hospital in Tampa and countless hours volunteering, but her biggest love was her home and family. She loved making a beautiful home and a fun place for the family to gather. She especially loved visits from her grandchildren so she could spoil them! She left us all with cherished memories of our time together in Seminole. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, George Nye; parents, Albert and Ruth Rogers; brothers, Albert and Ed; sisters, Joan Thomas and Shirley Hatfield; and son-in-law, Mike Kuhne. She is survived by two daughters, Dot Kuhne, Ginger (Larry) McMillen; four grandchildren, Bridget (Anthony) Diaz, Kim (Scott) Stone, Kelley (Scott) McAllister, Ryan McMillen; eight great-grandchildren, Ansley, Aidan, Brennan Diaz, Garrett, Delaney, Bronson Stone, Mallory and Makenna McAllister; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Phyllis Nye;  and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service will be held in the Chapel at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Brainerd at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018, with Pastor Chris Mullis officiating. Interment will follow with a private service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
