Walter Hatfield

NASHVILLE — Walter K. Hatfield, 96, formerly or Chattanooga, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 16, 2018. He was a long-time member of Red Bank Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Hatfield grew up in the country around Oakdale, Tenn. and attended school in a one-room school house. He proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Air Force, tours in Northern Africa, Italy and France. He studied in France before returning home from the war to continue his education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Adra Hatfield; siblings, Lucy, Helen, Glenn, Lewis and Ruth; and step-son, Don Jolley. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Ruth Hatfield; sister, Eula Spurling and husband Jack; step-daughter, Myrna Deere and husband Pete; step-grandchildren, David Deere and wife Kim, Keith Deere, Liane Ray and husband Rodney, and Seth Jolley; step-great- grandchildren, Alicia and Christopher Ray, Victor and Taylor Deere, and Sean and Erin Jolley; special niece, Jane Frazier and husband Jeff; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace with a funeral service to follow in the chapel with Dr. Fred Steelman officiating.
