Hazel Doremus

Hazel Corina Doremus, 99 was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Nashville, Tenn. She was a longtime member of the Ridgeview Baptist Church since 1954. She taught Sunday School at her church for many years, and worked with the church youth serving as Youth Director and Assistant Training Union Director. She was also a member of the Volunteer Sunday School Class from 1954 to 1991 and served in multiple capacities in the class. Hazel was active in civic and community affairs and belonged to the Cardinal Gardeners Club beginning in 1958. She was also a member of the Optimus Club and functioned as a participant in its "Friend of the Girl” program. She was also active in cub scouts in the mid 1950s and did volunteer work for the American Red Cross for many years in Detroit, Michigan before moving to Chattanooga. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, W. A. (Tony) Doremus; and her parents, the late Mrs. Laura B. Williams and the late Mr. A.L. Williams, of Nashville, Tenn. Survivors of Mrs. Doremus are son, Darrell Dean Doremus; a granddaughter, Katrina Dawn Holloway; and a grandson, COL. Darrell Anthony Doremus; and six grandchildren. A celebration of Hazel’s life will be held in the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday Jan. 27, 2018. The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband in the Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
