Shirlee Sullivan

Shirlee Moore Sullivan, 79, passed away on Dec. 13, 2017, at the Hospice House in Omaha, Neb., after a brief battle with Leukemia and treatment at the Buffet Cancer Center, Omaha. She was born Oct. 24, 1938, in Salt Lake City, Utah and was the daughter of the late Henry I. Moore and Jane {Jackson} Moore of Sunnyvale, Calif. Shortly after graduating from High School in Kennewick, Wash., in 1957 Shirlee married former spouse, Frank W. Sullivan. After raising her three children in California, she returned to school and graduated with a BS in nursing from Bethel College, Newton, Kan. She worked in a number of hospitals and nursing roles in Kansas, California, Minnesota and Tennessee, including several years as a public health nurse in Sacramento, Calif. She also served with Maryknoll in El Salvador, a Catholic Worker House in San Jose, Calif., and several Hospice homes. She especially loved serving at Welcome Home, hospice care in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the past several years. She was a tireless advocate for women’s issues, helping the poor and non-violence/peacemaking education-all springing from her faith in Jesus Christ and her desire to live out her Christianity in a way that makes a difference in the world. She is survived by her three children, Jeff (Jill) Sullivan, of Bemdji, Minn., Joan (Barney) Oliver, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mark (Trisha) Sullivan, of Bellevue, Neb.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, Henry (Jennifer) Moore, of Cave Creek, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Moore; and her parents, Henry and Jane. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held on April 6, 7 p.m. at St Martha's Episcopal Church, 780 Pinnacle Dr, Papillion, NE 68046.
