Betty Hudson

DAYTON — Betty Jean Hudson, 91, passed away May 24, 2018 at Memorial Hospital. Betty was a lifelong resident of Rhea County and an active and faithful member of Ogdon Baptist Church. She taught school for 30 years at Walden Ridge Elementary and farmed with her husband for 66 years on Dayton Mountain. Betty loved quilting, flowers, gardening, cooking and the Braves. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Soddy Jewell and Cora Gillett Jewell; five sisters, six brothers; and grandson, Thomas Varney. She is survived by her husband, Lee Roy Hudson, Dayton, Tenn.; children, Vickey (Thomas) Varney, Littleton, Colo., Rebecca (Jay) Roberson, Dayton, Tenn.; brothers, Franklin Jewell, Dayton, Tenn., and Kenneth Jewell, Spring City, Tenn.; grandchildren, Justin Roberson, Tiffany Hoose, Matthew Varney, Stephen and Collin Varney and several nieces and nephews. Service will be Sunday, May 27, at 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home with Rev. Shane Johnston and Rev. Jimmy Jewell officiating.
