Walter Hawkins
Walter E. Hawkins, lifelong resident of Signal Mountain, passed away peacefully at home after a short,
yet courageous battle against cancer.
Walter retired from International Equipment Company after 28 years where he was a service technician.
He loved meeting new people and never knew a stranger. He enjoyed listening to Blue Grass music on
Friday nights at the Mountain Opry and always had a passion for racing cars. He had a love for life,
family and was a devoted husband, father and PawPaw. He had a story for every situation and people
naturally gravitated towards him.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Len and Willie Mae (Stone) Hawkins; brothers, Herman
"Pete" Hawkins, Joseph "Buddy" Hawkins and Charles Hawkins; and sisters, Barbara Watkins and Shirley
Clingerman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Carol (McKnight): sons, David (Andrea) Hawkins, Terry (Cheryl) Hawkins; and daughter, Jessica Hawkins; six grandsons, Alex, Will (Alden), Jake, Josh, Chaz and Nick Hawkins; and granddaughters, Evie and Annabelle Wilson; and sister, Alma Henderson.
The family will receive friends 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace. The
funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the Chapel with Minister Garry Woodside officiating. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
