Mae Hampton

Mae Edna Hampton, a faithful servant of the Lord, entered this world on June 19, 1931 and departed on April 5, 2019. Mae Hampton was a bondservant of Christ, her life’s journey was totally consumed by doing the will of the Father. She accepted Christ at a young age and immediately began to do His work at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she united with New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church to serve alongside her husband. She lived to love God and people. She touched many lives and made them all feel that they were truly special. She was an encourager, listener, speaker, teacher and prayer warrior. She visited the sick regularly and made it her ministry to witness and recruit soldiers into God’s army. She was prepared to meet her Lord and Savior. She heard Him say, “well done my good and faithful servant…enter into the joy of your Master!” She was preceded in death by parents, Ed, Amanda Taylor; sons, Ronald, Ernest Ray; sisters, Louise Clemons, Edna Taylor; brothers William, Wesley, Henry Taylor and Charles Johnson. She is survived by her loving husband, Melvin Hampton; daughters Mattie Jean (Gregory) Hudson, Patricia (James) Roberts, Vivian “Ann” (William) Ware; sons, Robert “Buster” Ray and Derrick Hampton; brother Robert Taylor of Texas; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and dear friends. The body will lie-in-state Friday, April 12, 2019, from 12 noon - 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Viewing will continue at 5 p.m. at the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, located 2625 N. Chamberlain Avenue, 37406, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church. The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Saturday, April 13, at Mt. Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, located at 4801 Highway 58, 37416. Interment: Lakewood Memory Gardens East. Arrangements by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 423-622-9995.
