Billy Benson

On Dec. 30, surrounded by his family, the world lost and heaven gained Bishop Billy Benson, 84. An incredible husband, father, grandfather, friend and shepherd who was loved by all. Billy was born in 1934 to the late Paul and Estella Benson. As a young teenager he accepted his calling into the ministry. After marriage, he began his ministry as an evangelist, then became a full time pastor in the Church of God of Prophecy where he served for 43 years. During his early years he also worked as a draftsman for Combustion Engineering and freelanced for various national drafting companies. His talents not only included being able to draw blueprints, but enjoyed using his hands to build many projects. He enjoyed gardening, singing, playing the guitar, his most cherished activity was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Angela Faye; sisters, Ruth Hudson, Kay Smith; brothers, Jim and Charles Benson. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Bobbie; daughter, Teresa (Darrell) Eden; Son, DeWayne (Lisa) Benson; brother, Leroy Benson; grandchildren, Jason Eden, Bradley Benson, Christopher Eden, Christine Benson-Kern; and eight great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Eric Washburn officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Gardens South.
