Judith McCain

Judith Elder McCain of Chattanooga, 82, was born on Dec. 5, 1936, to Paul Reece Elder and Sara Frances Lavin, and passed away on Jan. 7, 2019. She married Hunter McCain and loved 62 years together. She loved her family, her friends, painting, her swimming group, watching basketball, and traveling with friends and family. She attended St. Mary’s College in New Orleans, La., the University of Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She taught at St. Jude Catholic School and Notre Dame High School and was Pastoral Associate at St. Jude Catholic Church. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Hunter. She is survived by her children, Lisa (Ed) Cordell, Carolyn (Russ) Carboni, Joe (Janet) McCain, and Ann (Scott) Shelby; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Sara (Gordon) Clem, Susan (late Elmer) Haverly, and Barbara (late Bill) McDonald. The family will celebrate her life on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 930 Ashland Terrace. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon immediately followed by the funeral mass. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Catholic Church.
