Arthur Veazey

Arthur Eugene Veazey was born on Dec. 29, 1931, to Wilbur Eugene Veazey and Nellie Mae Martin in Birmingham, Ala. Gene passed away on Jan. 8, 2019. He attended Southern College in Ooltewah, Tenn. where he met and married Phyllis Price. After a 2-year stint in the Army he was discharged in San Antonio,Texas, they moved to St. Petersburg, Fla., where Gene began a career in the baking business that would extend for 60 years. He was a sales representative and later President of the Bishop Baking Company in Cleveland, Tenn., which was later acquired by the Keebler Company which is now know as Flowers Backing Company. Even in retirement Gene continued to work part-time for The Mother Murphy Flavor Company. Gene was a devoted Seventh-day Adventist and was a long member of Bowen Hills Seventh Day Adventists Church. He was very involved in the community by serving on the Airport Board of Chattanooga for 15 years and also on other numerous boards including the Boys Club of Cleveland. In death he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sue Owens; and his daughter, Denise Veazey-Wille. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 65 years, Phyllis Veazey; two sons, Gary E. Veazey (Kathy), Doug Veazey (Rachel); grandchildren, Michael Veazey, Ben Veazey, Martin Veazey (Ashley), and Katherine Flinn (Phillip). He also had five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday evening, Jan. 13, 2019, 5 to 7 p.m. at Bowman Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church located at 300 Westview Drive, Cleveland, TN 37311. He will be interred at the National Cemetery in Chattanooga. Donations would be welcome to the Bowman Hills Seventh-day Adventist Church in Gene’s memory.
