Haze Carter

ROSSVILLE Haze Gilchrist Carter, 92, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010, in a local health care facility.Born July 21, 1917 to the late Kyle and Nell Marie Gilchrist, Mrs. Carter was married in 1939 to the late Churley Carter and together they owned and operated Carter's Restaurant in Chattanooga for many years. Their move to Section, Ala., resulted in their owning of the This-n-That Store for many years. Haze also worked for the city of Section. Following the passing of Mr. Carter in 1980 she returned to the Chattanooga area to be near her beloved family. In 2010, Mrs. Carter was recognized by NHC Fort Oglethorpe and honored as a Rosie The Riveter helping build war planes during World War II.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Nell Marie Gilchrist; and brother, Kyle Gilchrist Jr.She is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Joan (Virlon) Veal, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., Diane (Skeeter) Williams of Rossville, and Doug (Linda) Carter, of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Ellen (Tiny) Carter, of Rossville; many cousins and a host of friends.Graveside services will be held today, July 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. EDT at Bluff Cemetery in Section, Ala., with Rev.
