Dorothy Lamb

Dorothy Louise Scheffler Lamb, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010.Since 1941, Herman and Dorothy have been sharing most everything including their March birthdays. Their life-long romance and business partnership began with a chance meeting at a church social, and soon after, the newlyweds opened a retail camera store on Eigth and Market Street. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary last Monday.Dorothy began voting at age 21 and continued for over 50 years never missing an election until her health failed. She served as an election official at her North Chattanooga precinct each time. She has done several articles in the local newspaper encouraging young people to be educated and involved in the issues.She was a member of White Oak Baptist Church, past member of Northside Baptist in North Chattanooga. She and her husband were very active in the youth group and took them yearly to Gatlinburg for a church retreat.They were members of the Frye Camera Club which supervised the Photographic contest, for many years, at the Chattanooga Hamilton County Interstate Fair.She also won many awards for her flower arranging including the Frye Institute Flower show First place award.Dorothy and her husband were very active volunteers with the Tennessee Valley Railroad, and were among the founders of that museum. She sold tickets for the excursions and worked in the gift shop.She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Laura Scheffler; and a sister, Salome Scheffler Willoughby.Dorothy is survived by her husband, Herman H. Lamb; several nieces and cousins.The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Monday at the North Chapel.Services for Dorothy will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at the North Chapel with the Rev. Sullins Lamb officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
