Glenda Vann

Glenda Forte Vann, 67, of Harrison, and St. Augustine, Fla., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010.She fought a three year courageous battle against Mantle Cell Lymphoma at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla. Glenda maintained a positive spirit and was nicknamed "patient cheerleader" by the oncology department due to her consistent smiling disposition and encouraging words to other patients.She was born to Thelma and Frank Moody, Feb. 26, 1943, in Sylva, N.C. Glenda graduated from Sylva Webster High School in 1961, received a Bachelor of Education from Western Carolina University in 1965 and a Master of Science in Education from The University of Tennessee.Glenda began her teaching career in Atlanta, until she relocated to Harrision in 1970. She continued teaching for 34 years at Snow Hill Elementary until she retired in 2004. She was passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of her students.Glenda was an active member of First-Centenary United Methodist Church where she served several chair positions in the Positive Christians Singles. She loved to cook, walk, shop, play the piano, travel, and spend time with family and friends. Glenda was a positive and genuine Mother, Daughter, Grandmother, Sister, teacher and friend who never met a stranger and was always generous with her time and gifts.Glenda is survived by two children, Jeff Forte, of Harrison, and Angela Forte George (and husband Kurt) of Virginia Beach, Va. She also is survived by three grandchildren, Colten Jeffrey Forte, Lauren Kristian George and Frank Ryan George. She is also survived by her father, Frank Moody; and brother, Thomas Jerry Moody, both of Sylva, N.C.A memorial service will be held at Loves Chapel United Methodist Church, Sylva N.C. at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010.In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to Snow Hill Elementary School, 9042 Career Lane, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
