Peggy Stringfield

Peggy Joyce Stringfield (nee Slatton), 64, current resident of Abingdon, Va. and longtime resident of both Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Wellmonts Bristol Medical Center, cause of death is unknown. Peggy was born May 11, 1946, in Oakdale, Tenn. to Carl and Eva Stringfield and leaves behind two sisters, Reba Jean. of Woodbury, Tenn. and Brenda of Oak Ridge, Tenn. Peggy graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga, and attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga where she studied Classical Literature and Art History during the late 1960s and early 70s. Ms. Stringfield worked as a camerawoman for a local TV station and as a disc jockey before she began the career that was to be the main love of her life, she became a mother. During this time, she also became a confirmed Catholic under the tutelage of her beloved Godmother, Mrs. Helen Tillotson and became an active member of her parish church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.On Feb. 14, 1970, Peggy married Gregory Slatton. Their marriage produced three adoring daughters: Paula in 1971, Laura, 1972 and Christina in 1975. Peggy also has five grandchildren, Ava, Isabel, Jack, Scarlett and Lulu with two more due in early 2011. She was surrounded by family and beloved by many more relatives. Ms. Stringfield was preceded in death by her mother, Eva, and most recently her father, Carl, on Oct. 16, 2001. A funeral mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Knoxville with Father Jerry Tully officiating. The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Rose Mortuary Broadway Chapel, 1421 North Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37917 with a Rosary service to follow the receiving of friends at 7 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.rosemortuary.com.
