Sallie Phipps

Sallie Ann Phipps, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Oct. 29, 2010.Originally from Chickamauga, Ga., Sallie moved to Chattanooga in the 1940s. She was a long-time employee of First Tennessee Bank, retiring in 1995, a former member of Clifton Hills Baptist Church, and a member of the Chattanooga Police Departments first Citizens Police Academy (1999). Sallie was very active in her community, serving as a President of the Clifton Hills Neighborhood Association. She was instrumental in the creation and development of Caruthers Park in Clifton Hills.She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar Anderson and Mary Ann Ballew; daughters, Lola Ann Parrish and Rita Gail Phipps; and nephew, Tommy King.Sallie is survived by a daughter, Henrietta Seay Alexander; two grandchildren, Jesse and Jillian Alexander; sister, Louise Hale; a niece and two nephews of Oklahoma; her former caregivers, Jan Murray, Amanda Murray Dunn and Angel Murray; along with very dear family/friends, the Murray Family; and a stepson, Sam "Butch" Phipps.Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.Funeral Services at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Minister Bruce Wooley of Brainerd Church of Christ officiating.
