Wynne Hoopes

Wynne Hoopes, 91, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at the home of his daughter in Slygo Valley, Ga. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances E. Hoopes and grandson, Jeff Payne. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church and the retired from South Central Bell Telephone Company where he had worked for more than 42 years. He was a member of the Phone Pioneers. A active member of the Alhambra Shrine, he served as Drum Major of the Drum and Buggle Corps. He was Chairman of the Shrine Crippled Childrens Fundraising and Chairman and founding member of the Highland Sportsman Club. He was a member of the Half Century Club. He was a founding member of the Chattanooga Trout Association. He served his country during World War II with the United States Navy. Survivors include a daughter, Wynnette and her husband, J.D. Payne, of Slygo Valley, Ga.; two sons, John Michael Hoopes and Charles A. "Al" Hoopes and his wife, Dianna, who are Baptist Missionaries to the Phillipines; three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; brother, William Franklin Hoopes, of Quitman, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home.
