Ruth Chapman

Ruth Pendley Chapman, 98, of Signal Mountain, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at Alexian Healthcare.She was born Dec. 20, 1912 in Calhoun, Ga.She was preceded in death by her husband, William S. "Bill" Chapman; parents, Rev. Jerry and Janie Pendley; brothers, Tommy, Austin, Sammy, Charlie, Floyd, Clifford, Sidney and Lee.She is survived by her sister, Lillie Rae Moss and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.Ruth was a member of Signal Mountain Baptist Church and previous member of Lookout Mountain Baptist and First Baptist Church of Chattanooga where she was active in the missions organizations.She was a graduate of McKenzie Business School and was employed at Varnell Hardware for 25 years as bookkeeper. She was a true southern lady and enjoyed entertaining and being active in the Lookout Mountain community.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 16, in the chapel of Wann Funeral Home with Dr. David Myers and Dr. Steven Wright officiating.The family will receive friends one hour prior to service.Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.
