Frances Lauter

ROSSVILLE Frances Harrington Lauter, 96, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011.Mrs. Lauter was born in 1914 to the late Frank and Marion Harrington in Chattanooga; she grew up in Highland Park, and lived most of her life in Rossville. She was a graduate of Central High School and worked 50 plus years at Peerless Woolen Mills serving in several capacities.She was co-editor of the Peerless Newsletter and was a member of the championship Peerless Womens basketball, softball and bowling teams. Frances mainly assisted her husband as athletic director where they worked together devoting their time through sports to help the employees and young people in Rossville. Frances and Walter gained the respect of the community through their contribution, dedication, and hard work. After retirement she became an artist and doll maker. She loved her family, her Rossville friends, and she was a member of the Simpson UMC for 65 years.She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lauter Sr.; parents, Frank and Marion Harrington; and sister, Katherine Adams.Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Walter and Kathy Lauter Jr., of Harrison; sister, Rita (Ellis) Smith, of Signal Mountain; grandsons, Mark Lauter, of Clearwater, Fla., Evan and Christian Crane, of Harrison; nephew, Jimmy (Sandy) Smith, of Signal Mountain; and niece, Rita "Toodie" Irvin, of Arlington, Va.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Simpson UMC at 601 McFarland Ave., Rossville, GA 30741.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the South Crest Chapel with the Rev. Natalie Smart officiating.Interment will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.The family will receive friends from noon Saturday until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
