Hugh Edgemon

CHICKAMAUGA Hugh D. Edgemon, 69, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at his home.He was of the Baptist faith.Preceded in death by a sister, Merryam Edgemon Stephenson.Mr. Edgemon graduated from Tennessee Technological University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomy. He taught Vocational Agriculture in Gadsden, Tenn.He was branch manager for Seal Test Foods in Jackson, Miss. He later worked for Golden Gallon as plant manager for Ray Moss Farms. There he oversaw the companys dairy operations, the installation of self-service gas pumps and the construction and design of convenience stores. Mr. Edgemon changed careers to become a building contractor.He served twice as president of the Home Builders Association of Chattanooga where he established the HBACs Scholarship Program. He was also Home Builder of the Year. Mr. Edgemon spent his retirement years farming in Chickamauga. He was a member of the Masonic Order, the Alhambra Shrine and Eastern Star and a Life Spike member of the National Association of Home Builders.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to The Care Mission in LaFayette, Ga.Survived by his wife, Carolyn Snodgrass Edgemon, Chickamauga; daughters, Catherine Edgemon, Chickamauga, Ingrid Edgemon Hensley, and husband, Mark, of Greenwood, Ind.; grandson, Joshua Hensley; sister, Cecilia Evans, Cleveland, Tenn.; brother, Prentice Edgemon, Cleveland, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral from the Wallis Memorial Chapel at 1 p.m. Saturday.Interment in Arcadia Farms Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.The arrangements are by Wallis-Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette.
