Dr John Tullock

DELANO Dr. John H. Tullock, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011. Dr. Tullock, a graduate of Vanderbilt University, pastored churches in Tennessee and North Carolina. He taught at Belmont University for 34 years where he served as Chairman of the Department of Religion. He was the author of The Old Testament Story, just released in its Ninth Edition. While at Belmont, he and his wife, Helen, took two, one year sabbaticals where they served in Ogbomosho, Nigeria. Married for 64 years they became "parents" to people from Texas, Brazil, Alaska, Sweden, Nigeria and Dr. Tullock's caregiver, Debra Meyer.Dr. Tullock is survived by his wife, Helen; his daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Gene Sizemore; his son and daughter-in-law, Laurens and Polly Tullock; his daughters, Thelma Mankin and Sandra Taylor; grandchildren, Donald Martin, Chyna Brackeen, Jodi Martin, Jennifer Meadows and Will Tullock and several great-grandchildren.A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2011, at Delano Cemetery, Delano, Tenn. A Celebration Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Mar. 5, 2011, at Wetmore Baptist Church in Delano, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to the Tullock, Curtis, Lee Scholarship Fund, Belmont University, 1900 Belmont Blvd., Nashville, TN 37212-3757.
