Evelyn Payne

SOUTH PITTSBURG Lela Evelyn Payne passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, in a local nursing home. Yesterday would have been her 94th birthday.She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edgar and Laura Elizabeth Wilkinson Pritchett; husband, Mark Payne Sr.; sons, Mark Payne Jr., David Payne Sr.,and Charles Payne; infant granddaughter, Lela Payne; brothers, Mack Pritchett, C.W. Pritchett and Bob Pritchett and a sister, Beatrice Pelham.She was a faithful member of the Kimball Church of Christ. "Granny Payne" as she was lovingly known by all those whose lives she touched, was a devoted mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. Until her diagnosis with Parkinsons she enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking and was very active working for the Lord and helping others. During her four year stay at The Bridge Nursing Home, she remained a faithful Christian example and eagerly awaited each Sunday so she could attend the church service and worship God. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Evelyn (Hollis) Rogers; special daughters-in-law, Rose Payne, Kate Payne and Marilyn Payne; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren.Funeral services will be conducted from the Kimball Church of Christ on Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2011, at 3 p.m. Central with Tim Storey and Billy Watkins officiating. Interment will follow in Cumberland View Cemetery in Kimball.The family will receive friends for visitation today, Feb. 28, 2011, from 5-9 p.m. Central time at the Kimball Church of Christ.Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinsons Foundation or the American Cancer Society.Rogers Funeral Home, South Pittsburg has been entrusted with the arrangements, send condolences to www.rogersfuneralhome.com.
