Mackie Hamilton

Mackie Wynn Hamilton, 88, of Chattanooga, transitioned to her heavenly father on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011.Mackie was the second of three daughters born Oct. 22, 1922, to the late Bertha Wynn Thornton and Mack Wynn.She attended the local school system and graduated Howard High School, class of 1941, Park Place School, and retired after many years from the employ of Dr. Moore J. Smith Jr., at the Medical Arts Building.At a much earlier age, she became a member of Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church on Park Avenue. Mackie was a peacemaker. She loved God, people, and she loved to smile. She was a kind, generous and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, "Angie" ODell; husband, George H. Hamilton.Mrs. Hamilton will be dearly missed by survivors: daughter, Connie Russell Starks, Marietta, Ga.; sons, Kenneth J. Russell and Jeffrey B. Hamilton, Chattanooga; stepdaughter, Dorothy Alexander, Detroit, Mich., Fred (Doris) Hamilton, Atlanta; grandchild, Tracee (Larry) Guilford, Douglasville, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Andrea and Adrian, Douglasville, Ga.; sister, Elizabeth "Liz" Richardson, Sanford, N.C.; aunt, Olivia Chestnut, Powder Springs, Ga.; nieces, Cynthia Birse, Marietta, Ga., Michelle (L.V.) Marks, Saundra "Peaches" Richardson; nephew, William R. "Buster" Richardson, all of North Carolina; and a host of relatives and devoted friends.Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Highland Cemetery with Rev. Jimmie Ingram officiating.The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
