Rev. Leslie Eugene "Gene" Varner, 90, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011, at a nursing facility in Murfreesboro, Tenn.A celebration of his life and home going will be at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 15, 2011, at Oak Street Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Miller leading the service. Rev. Varner will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home, Habitat for Humanity in Soddy-Daisy or a charity of your choice.
