Gary Matlock

Gary Earl Matlock, 61, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, due to a long battle of liver cancer.He was born Oct. 1, 1949, in Nashville, Tenn., to Jean and Earl Matlock.He graduated from Central High School in 1967 where he played football and was an All-City baseball catcher.Gary was employed at Stein Construction Co. for 40 years. He proudly worked for three generations of the Stein family. He was an active member of Grace Works Church.He was a member of Brainerd Masonic Lodge as well as Alhambra Shrine. He was very active in Alhambra Shrines Clown Unit as well as the Southeastern Shrine Clown Association. He was also a member of York Rite Bodies and Opossum Creek Shrine Club. He was honored to serve as Potentate of Alhambra Shrine for the year 2000.He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Matlock (1991); grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Henderson "Bud" Baker, and Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Matlock. He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Brenda Matlock; mother, Jean Matlock, of Chattanooga; brother, Mark (Vicki) Matlock, of Ooltewah; three daughters, Kayla (Travis) Wong, of Ringgold, Ericka (Jeff) Mahon, of Ringgold, and Milicent (Steve) Winfree, of Carthage, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Chance Mahon, Katie and Gracie Winfree.The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on today, Jan. 19, and on Thursday, Jan. 20 from 5-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service to follow at the East Brainerd Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21 at Grace Works Church, 6445 Lee Highway.Entombment will be held at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Highway 153 following the service.Active pallbearers will be John Noll, Ed Sheley, Eddie Test, Perry Perkins, Terry Parker, Jim Ballard, Ted Lawson, and Doug Stein.Honorary pallbearers will be Past Potentates, Clown Unit, Opossum Creek, and All Shriners.
