Kay Armstrong

Kay Wrenn Armstrong, of Lookout Mountain, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2010, at the age of 73, after a courageous fight with cancer.She grew up in Greensboro, N.C., and graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a member of the Anglican Church of the Redeemer.Kay met her husband, Mel, at Eastover Resort in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts in 1957, where they worked for two summers. They described this experience as, "the time of there lives."Kay was a true animal lover. Her pets, who have gone on before her, were all surely waiting for her at "Rainbow Bridge" to cross into Heaven together.She was preceded in death by her brother, Ikey Wrenn; her father, Oscar Ivey Wrenn; and mother, Lucy Wright Wrenn.Survivors include her husband, Mel Armstrong; son, John Armstrong, and daughters, Lucy Armstrong and Sarah (Brian) Mooney; brother, Alec Wrenn; sisters, Anne Russell and Elinor Hadley; and grandchildren, Austin Armstrong, Liz Mooney and Katie Mooney.The Family will accept friends on Friday, Jan. 21, from 2-3:30 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:30, at Anglican Church of the Redeemer, 1815 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga (former location of Central Presbyterian Church).The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Edward Arrowsmith, Memorial Hospital, and the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, for their skillful and compassionate efforts in trying to save Kay.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the McKamey Animal Center, 4500 North Access Road, Chattanooga, TN 37415.Arrangements are by Wann Funeral Home.
