Bill Byrd

Bill Byrd, 94, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, after a short illness.A native of Bruceton, Tenn., he moved to Chattanooga at an early age and was retired from the Krystal Co. as the Chattanooga City Manager.He was a Veteran of W.W. II, serving in the U.S. Army and was a member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Half Century Club and has been a resident of the Hickory Valley Retirement Community for the past five years.He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, LaVada.Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Elizabeth Berry, Maryville, Tenn.; two sons, William Edward Byrd and Robert Reed Byrd, both of Chattanooga; five grandchildren, Marie Howard and Beverly Walden, of Chattanooga, Bryan Byrd, Dalton, Ga., Mike Berry and Tony Berry, both of Maryville, Tenn.; and special friends, Brenda Russell, Columbia, S.C. and Sandy Guffey, Chattanooga, as well as all the staff and residents of Hickory Valley Retirement Community.Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today in Greenwood Cemetery with the Rev.
