Blanche Gibbs

Blanche Cooper Gibbs left this world and went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011. She was born Sept. 4, 1922, attended Chattanooga schools, was graduated from Chattanooga High School, and received a scholarship to the University of Chattanooga.A member of Brainerd Baptist Church, she was a Sunday School teacher and was activein the Women's Missionary Union. She and her husband served as Christian Service Corps volunteers with the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention for several years in seven different state projects. For a number of years she was secretary at Henry L. Barger School. During WWII she worked in the office of U.S. Treasurer Henry Morganthau in Washington, D.C.She was preceded in death by her parents, E.L. and Pearl Cooper; her husband of 54 years, Dillon C. Gibbs; and sisters, Sue Cooper Mapes and Nell Cooper Crowder. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Carol Gibbs, Chattanooga; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and John Grant, Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandson, James Grant, Lawrenceville, Ga.; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Brian and Leigh Anne Grant, Monroe, Ga.; great-grandson, Caleb Grant, Monroe, Ga.; sister-in-law, Evelyn Gibbs; brother-in-law, Gilford Gibbs; and cousin, the Rev. Richard Baker.The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 24, from 11 a.m. 1 p.m. at the funeral home.Graveside Services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Rev.
