James Evans

ATHENS James Bradley Evans,71, and former resident of Riceville, died Friday night, Jan. 21, 2011, at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. A lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a son of the late Ray and Grace Womac Evans and was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Catherine Evans and a half brother, Neal Evans.He was a member of First Baptist Church of Athens where he was active in Sunday school and the church choir. He served in the Tennessee National Guard. He was associated with Bowater for 44 years and was serving as Superintendent of the Paper Mill Department at the time of his retirement.He is survived by his wife, Shirley Shipley Evans, to whom he was married for 51 years, of Athens, one daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Randy Breedwell, of Athens; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Natalie Evans, of Knoxville; grandchildren, Brooke Breedwell, Blake Breedwell and Parker Evans; aunts, Jo Bacon, Irene Cupp, Frances Womac and Myrtle Womac; and several cousins.A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m., Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with the Dr. Jason Clark officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens.
