Frances Young

Frances Marie Young passed away Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011.She was born to the union of the late Henry and Ophelia Vanzant in Winchester, Tenn., Dec. 11, 1927.She was educated in the public school system of Winchester, and later relocated to Chattanooga, where she served as a faithful wife to the late Fletcher Young, and loving mother to five children, (Terry Starkey, Marjorie Starkey Swoopes, Elton L. Young, Robert E. Allgood, and the late Druscilla Allgood).Frances Marie Young accepted Christ at an early age, and was later called to the gospel ministry as a pastor/evangelist with the Church of God in Christ where she faithfully served for 20 years as senior pastor of Farleigh Street Church of God in Christ. Following her retirement, she later joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Wayne L. Johnson where she served faithfully until her illness.Frances Marie Young leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Marjorie Starkey Swoopes; three sons, Elton (Brenda) Young, Robert (Princella) Allgood, Terry B. Starkey; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Nelson, Columbus, Ohio; three brothers, Joe Allgood, Winchester, Tenn., Paul Allgood, Elyria, Ohio, Oliver (Jennifer) Allgood, Kennesaw, Ga.; three sister-in-laws, Louise Allgood, Letohatchee, Ala., Florida Vanzant, and Phyllis Allgood along with a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating.Interment in Highland Cemetery.The body will lie in state after noon today at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
