Clarence Johnson

FORT OGLETHORPE Clarence Leander Johnson, known to his friends as "C.L." or "Watermelon", 76, passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2011.He was born in Carroll County, Ga. and moved to the Fort Oglethorpe area in 1965, was of the Church of God faith and retired from U.S. Pipe in 1989 after 22 years.C.L. was preceded in death by his father, Foster Floyd Johnson; stepfather, Frank Evans; sister, Joyce Latrica Johnson; brother, Paul Eugene Johnson; and niece, Michelle "Missy" Thacker.He is survived by his wife, of 57 years, Opal Johnson; mother, Loy Geanell Johnson Evans; daughters, Karen Rebecca (Darrell) Simpson, of Rossville, Felicia Michelle Johnson Mercer, of Fort Oglethorpe, and Tammy Johnson (Lloyd) Harmon, of Chickamauga; son, Steve Clarence (Kathy) Johnson, of Bryant, Ala.; sister, Margaret (Roy) Cornelius, of California; brother, Edsel (Sheila) Johnson, of Ringgold; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lawrence Munoz officiating.Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011, and prior to the service Saturday.Arrangements by W.L.
