FORT OGLETHORPE Sidney Eugene ODell, 85, departed this life Wednesday, March 30, 2011.He was born in Chattanooga to the late Major Grant and Ruby Elizabeth ODell, and was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Pearl ODell.Sid served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and retired from Crane Company in Chattanooga after 43 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3679 and was of the Baptist faith.Survivors include his children, Peggy Downs, of Chickamauga, Beverly Blackwell, Pat ODell, both of Fort Oglethorpe; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 in the chapel with Rev. Bill Proctor officiating.Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.Family will receive friends after 3 p.m. today and prior to the service Friday.Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.
