Betty Cox

FORT OGLETHORPE Betty Cox, 79, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011.She was a native of Athens, Tenn., and had lived most of her life in the North Georgia area. Mrs. Cox was a 1951 graduate of City High School where she was captain of the basketball team, she was a member of the Lakeview Presbyterian Church, and had retired from Barry Corporation to work in the family business, Ray's Tool and Supply. Her passions in life were her family, playing basketball in high school, and going on cruises with her husband.She was preceded in death by her mother, Estella Bridges.Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years, Raymond Cox; three children, Ray (Cathy) Cox, of Ringgold, Billie (Stephen) Hayes, of Chattanooga, and Carroll (Randy) Hixon, of Fort Oglethorpe; two grandchildren, Mickey Cox, of Rock Spring and Christopher (Jessica) Hixon, of Fort Oglethorpe; caregiver and friend, Kathy Long.Funeral services will be held today at 12:30 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel.Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for the Alzheimers Association.Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. today until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville.
