Dottie Antman

Dorothea Anderson Antman, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011.She was born Nov. 4, 1927 in Minneapolis, Minn., to Dr. John and Dorothea Lynde Anderson. A graduate of Rollins College and Florida State University, she taught for several years, but was most enthusiastically the heart of her extended family -a mother, grandmother, correspondent, visitor, caregiver and general guardian of the family and its traditions. Since 1976, she has lived in the home built by her Lynde grandparents on Lookout Mountain. She was an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and the Chattanooga Music Club, and volunteered for Senior Neighbors and several other organizations. Dottie was predeceased by her sister, Frances Moran; and brothers, Richard and Theodore Anderson.Survivors include: children, Bruce Antman (Jan), of Chattanooga, Carolyn Antman, of Jacksonville, Fla. and Elizabeth Burton (Scott) of Acworth, Ga.; grandchildren, Melanie Hanns (George), of Daytona Beach, Stephanie Velisek, of Merritt Island, Fla., James Higbee and Richard Higbee, both of Jacksonville, John Higbee, of Tampa, and David Antman (Kathryn), of Decatur, Ga.; two great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Anderson (Norma), of Chattanooga; and numerous other relatives and friends.A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 3, at 4 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga.Visitation will be after that service.The family would especially like to thank the staff at Manorhouse Assisted Living.In lieu of flowers, contributions are encouraged to the Unitarian Universalist Church or the Salvation Army.Arrangements by Wann Funeral Home.
