Ozelle Smith

JASPER Emma Ozelle Gass Smith, 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at her home.Mrs. Smith was born in Jasper, Tenn., the daughter of the late Rollie D. "R.D." and Lula Marie Laster Smith.An accomplished musician, Mrs. Smith began playing the piano at the age of four, receiving lessons from the late Emma Houston Price in Jasper. She received many awards for her talent in music and played up until her death. She was an organist for several churches, most recently for Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Jasper where she attended regularly.Mrs. Smith retired from the Department of Employment with the state of Tennessee.In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Paris A. Smith.Survivors include two sons, Paris A. "Alan" Smith Jr. and Michael Lawrence "Larry" Smith; grandson, Christopher Alan Smith; and a host of close friends.A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. CDT on Friday, May 13, 2011, in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Jim Patterson officiating.The family will gather with friends on Friday, May 13, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
