James Brown

CHICKAMAUGA James O. Brown Jr., 72, departed this life for his heavenly home on Monday, May 30, 2011. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born on March 25, 1939, in Chickamauga, Ga., to the late James Otis Brown Sr. and Jamie Madaris Brown. He had been a lifelong resident of Chickamauga,and was a graduate of Gordon Lee High School. Mr. Brown also graduated from The Southern Institute of Technoolgy and The University of Chattanooga. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. He worked at American National Bank as a Corporate Trust Officer. After his retirement from the bank, he was self-employed in the home construction business. Mr. Brown was a strong Christian man with a faith like no other. He was a loving husband, father and friend. He spent the last months of his life enjoying his family and farm. He fought cancer with a strength that only God could provide. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Peggy Kellogg Brown, who is left to cherish the memories they created together; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa and Andrew Shine, LeAnne and Jonathan Shook; grandchildren; AJ Shine, Alex Shine, Cailee Grace Shook; devoted in-laws, Nancy and Jim Pilgrim, Sandra and Tom Kinsey, all reside in Chickamauga, Ga. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. today and Wednesday morning prior to the service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011, graveside in Chickamauga with the Revs. William "Bill" Casteel, Charles McElhaney, and Ron Daniel.
